What is Student Government?
Student Government is a club that consists of students of all grades. Members get involved by planning events within the school and community. Many other leadership opportunities are available for interested members. Student Government has developed a close relationship with
the SHS Administration, which helps the club better act on student concerns. It's goal is to make SHS its best by continuing traditions, like Prom, and acting on the issues of the student body.
Who participates?
Any student can participate. Whether you're looking to head a committee or just to be active in a club, Student Government will give you that opportunity. Any student is encouraged to attend meetings to increase membership diversity, which yield greater changes.
When and where does Student Government meet?
Student Government meetings are regularly held after school every other Monday. Join us in the Drama Classroom. Check the calendar for upcoming meetings and events.
What leadership roles are available?
Positions include (but are not limited to) being a committee chair, a class officer, a Shared Decision Making Team representative, or an officer of the executive board. New roles open year-round as well.
How does Student Government make changes within the school?
Student Government keeps continuous communication with both the students and the school's adminstration. Student concerns are discussed during meetings. Then, after deciding how best to make the change, Student Government meets with an administrator for approval.
How do I tell my ideas for the school or for Student Government?
Post them on our
blog or attend the next meeting to introduce and discuss them.
